Overview

The city of Newark, Del. adopts and enforces the following codes:

• The International Building Code, 2018 edition. Newark, Del. Muni. Code § 7-3 (adopted) with § 7-4 (amendments).
• The International Residential Code, 2018 edition. Newark, Del. Muni. Code § 7-15 (adopted) with § 7-16 (amendments).
• The International Existing Building Code, 2018 edition. Newark, Del. Muni. Code § 7-5 (adopted) with § 7-6 (amendments).
• The International Energy Conservation Code, 2018 edition. Newark, Del. Muni. Code § 7-7 (adopted) with § 7-8 (amendments).

Residential Building Code

Existing Buildings

Existing buildings, meaning buildings that were built in accordance to code at the time of construction, typically merit extra consideration in a current updated code.
